Some areas frequently suffer from urban waterlogging after heavy rains. To ensure rapid drainage of stormwater and prevent waterlogging, comprehensive blanket inspections have been conducted on town ramps, drainage channels, sewage pipes, building foundations, and other facilities. Additionally, targeted desilting and dredging work has been carried out on waterlogging-prone spots and sludge-clogged pipelines along major trunk roads in both the town center and suburban areas.
Therefore, regular desilting operations are essential to maintain unobstructed pipelines. During desilting, workers first open the sewage manhole covers to initiate the centralized cleaning. When the covers are lifted, an acrid stench often gushes out from the pipelines. "Newly opened pipelines are filled with harmful gases, and hydrogen sulfide is the most dangerous—it can be fatal within seconds," said an experienced technician from a Hangzhou pipeline dredging company. Subsequently, workers lower a bamboo ladder into the manhole. Master Liu took off his shoes, put on a chest-high full-body plastic overall, grabbed a steel shovel, and climbed down the ladder to the 2-meter-deep manhole to remove sludge.
Although the desilting work may cause temporary inconvenience to residents, it is crucial for the long-term rational operation of the city. The authorities also appeal to residents to develop good hygiene habits and refrain from dumping household waste, construction waste, or other debris into drainage channels.
